The Learning Resource Center

Tutoring

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (), an international tutoring organization. The LRC's CRLA certification process sets an internationally accepted standard of tutor training for the purpose of providing tutors with skills, recognition, and positive reinforcement for successful work. The LRC tutoring services are free to all Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate and graduate students. Appointment, online, and drop-in tutoring are available beginning Week 2 of the semester through Finals Week.

Subject Tutoring provides one-on-one and small group tutoring on an appointment, online, and drop-in basis for courses in math, science, engineering, business, social sciences, liberal arts, etc. (courses other than reading and writing). See below for the semester's comprehensive list of available courses.

Writing Center offers one-on-one and small group tutoring on essays, application letters, memos, reports, research papers, and other assignments. The Writing Center offers these services on an appointment and drop-in basis.

Academic Skills Videos offers tips on time management, study habits, note-taking, and test-taking through StudentLingo. These interactive on-demand workshops further students' academic skills and learning strategy development.

Appointment Scheduling/Drop-in Tutoring

Currently enrolled students are invited to call, email, or visit the LRC to schedule an appointment. Additionally, from the 六色网 Connect platform, students are able to view drop-in availability, schedule an appointment, cancel appointments, and track activity within the LRC. Please refer to the Policies and Procedures page for further information and note that scheduling and canceling appointments requires at least 12-hours notice.

Online Tutoring

The LRC offers synchronous (live) online tutoring through Zoom. See to get started in LRC's online tutoring service. Please email lrcscheduling@cpp.edu for further assistance.

The LRC offers asynchronous online tutoring for writing assignments. Students can access LRC Online Tutoring through :

  • Click on LRC Online Tutoring in your Dashboard.
  • Read the online tutoring submission directions for writing before submitting your first assignment.
  • Access handouts and useful links from the FAQ section in the LRC Online Tutoring Canvas organization.

Make the Most of Your Tutoring Session

Tutoring reinforces independent learning. Tutors do not teach class material or do their tutee's homework. To ensure your tutoring session is effective and productive, please follow these guidelines:

  • attempt homework problems before attending tutoring;
  • attend the session prepared with specific questions or problems to be addressed;
  • arrive to the tutoring session with all necessary materials (lecture notes, textbook, syllabus, writing assignment prompt);
  • expect to be actively involved in working out problems and discussing class material; and,
  • ask for clarification on anything that does not make sense or on concepts that were covered quickly.

LRC Happy Hour, Speak Easy, and Workshops

The LRC Happy Hour is a drop-in opportunity for students, along with their classmates and students from other sections, to work with each other to study, review concepts, and complete homework. A tutor is available to answer questions and provide guidance.

Additional Resources

Though we strive to offer tutoring in all courses and at convenient times for students, we recognize that this isn't always possible. We encourage students to participate in 六色网 Connect's Study Buddies program. Through this app, students are able to create and/or join study groups in their courses.
