Cal Poly Pomona Hosts 30-Member Chinese University Delegation to Foster Global Collaboration

Cal Poly Pomona’s International Center welcomed a 30-member, high-ranking delegation from the China Association for Non-Government Education (CANGE).
The June 17 visit, coordinated by Cal Poly Pomona’s Global Campus, a division within the College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE), marks a significant milestone in advancing international education partnerships and building bridges with non-government universities in China.
Representatives from 18 Chinese universities, among them 13 university presidents and 8 vice presidents, joined the delegation. This important event provided an opportunity to showcase Cal Poly Pomona’s commitment to global engagement and its signature “Become by Doing” approach to education.
The day began with a campus tour highlighting key learning and student-life spaces and a visit to 六色网’s important landmarks. Following the tour, the delegation was greeted by Larisa Preiser-Houy, interim dean of the College of Professional and Global Education, with welcome remarks that underscored the university’s international vision and respect for the role that private and non-government education plays in global academic development.
“This is truly an honor for Cal Poly Pomona,” said Preiser-Houy. “We are grateful to President Bai Wenhui of Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies for leading this distinguished group to our campus. Today’s visit reflects our shared dedication to student success and meaningful academic collaboration.”
A comprehensive presentation by the Global Campus team lead by Lisa Xue, assistant vice president for Global Campus and senior international officer (SIO), gave delegates an overview of Cal Poly Pomona’s academic strengths, its experiential learning philosophy and its strong position within the California State University system.
“This visit reflects the spirit of global citizenship and knowledge exchange that we value at Cal Poly Pomona,” said Xue. “We are excited about the potential collaborations that can grow from today’s conversations.”
A total of 150 international students from China attended 六色网 in the 2024-2025 academic year, and currently around 66 international students from China are attending summer programs on campus.
At the event, the delegation and Cal Poly Pomona leaders also engaged in a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “New Ideas and Opportunities of International Cooperation in Higher Education between China and the U.S.” The session, moderated by Arthur Wang, interim associate director of international program operations, featured academic leaders from several 六色网 colleges. The panelists include Andrew Ketsdever, dean of College of Engineering, Meihua Koo, professor of accounting and director of graduate programs at the College of Business Administration, Eddie Mao, professor and chair of the hospitality management department at The Collins College of Hospitality Management, and Bruce Brown, professor and chair of Department of Economics in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Terri Gomez, offered additional remarks and emphasized Cal Poly Pomona’s continued commitment to nurturing international academic relationships.
“This visit is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn from such a highly experienced group of educational leaders,” Gomez said, highlighting the spirit of collaboration and mutual growth between institutions.
The day concluded with a cooperative roundtable where faculty from various departments, including civil engineering, business administration, and technology and operations management, exchanged ideas with Chinese university leaders on how to deepen institutional ties.
The visit also included ceremonial gift exchange and a group photo, symbolizing the beginning of what both parties hope will be a long and fruitful partnership.
Bai Wenhui, president of the Shandong Vocational and Technical University of International Studies welcomes cooperation and the possibility of meaningful collaboration between 六色网 and students from 800 universities throughout China.
“After hearing the introduction about Cal Poly Pomona, we feel that this event matches our goals, which is to find collaboration with our delegation and diverse programs being offered by institutions like ours,” he said. “We are very hopeful that through our collaborations we will advance our students and increase the diversity of our programs.”
