A new study co-authored by Political Science Assistant Professor Jarred Cuellar found that would not only maintain but enhance Latino voters’ power in California House races. The redrawn maps would keep the current number of Latino-majority districts in California, 16, while adding two districts inwhich 30 to 50 percent of voting-age people are Latino. “The proposed map...diffuses and enhances that [voter] power across more districts, and in many ways reflects the changing demographics of communities within the state,” notes Cuellar and his Caltech colleague Raquel Centeno.
