From an early age, Melissa experienced how deeply a teacher’s encouragement can shape a child’s sense of self. In second grade while navigating separation anxiety, she found comfort in a teacher who noticed her, supported her and became a lifelong mentor. His compassion revealed the power of education to build confidence and belonging, an example that continues to inspire her journey. That experience, combined with her love for working with children, has led to years of service in both education and ministry. She currently serves as the children’s ministry director at Gracepointe Church of Hacienda Heights and as the Logistics Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child in the San Gabriel Valley. This past summer, she gained hands-on leadership experience with WinShape Camps as a team time leader, operations specialist and campus representative. Melissa carries with her the words of educator Rita Pierson, who reminded the world that “every child deserves a champion.” She hopes to be that champion as a kindergarten teacher who creates safe, supportive spaces where every child feels seen and capable.
