Peter is fascinated with water engineering and is motivated to contribute to a field that will improve the quality of life for local and global communities. A drinking water defluoridation research project at Cal Poly Pomona in his freshman year helped steer him toward a design internship with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. Inspired by the experience, he served as an engineering intern in Nigeria, where he collaborated with locals in rural communities on borehole drilling, sanitation and development projects. “I’ll never forget the thrill expressed by villagers when our drilling team hit water. The opportunity confirmed that my career goal of providing access to clean water would come through developing relationships.” Looking ahead, Peter hopes to work as a water engineer consultant and pursue professional licensure and graduate study in water resources, with the goal of providing clean water and sanitation to underserved communities worldwide.
