Eight Dimensions of Wellness

These dimensions are interconnected, so you may notice that most topics influence multiple dimensions.

Emotional wellness involves developing an awareness of your feelings and how you respond to the everyday of life. By tapping in to this dimension, you can better understand your feelings and can actively respond to them.

Occupational wellness encourages you to explore career options that allow you to pursue the opportunities you'd enjoy the most. This dimension of wellness emphasizes the importance of satisfaction, enrichment and meaning through your work or career.

Intellectual wellness encourages you to engage in creative and mentally-challenging activities — often through lifelong learning and curiosity. This type of wellness can be developed through school, cultural & community involvement and hobbies that expand your knowledge and skills. Take it one step further and share your knowledge and skills with others, too!

Environmental wellness refers to valuing the relationship between ourselves, our community and the environment. The core principle of environmental wellness is an inherent respect for nature and all species living in it.

Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage your financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our lives, and it can impact your health as well as academic performance.

Physical wellness is the ability to maintain a quality of life that allows you to get the most out of your daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress. This type of wellness emphasizes that our daily habits and behaviors have an impact on our overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Social wellness focuses on building and nurturing meaningful and supportive relationships with people, groups and communities. It enables you to create boundaries that encourage communication, trust and conflict management. Social wellness also includes showing respect for others, oneself and other cultures.

Spiritual wellness allows us to be in tune with our inner-selves. This realm of wellness lets us find meaning in our life and helps define our individual purpose. Spirituality can stem from beliefs, faith, values, ethics or moral principles that provide us purpose and direction.
