Alternate Format Accommodations

Overview

Alternate Media refers to the conversion of printed course materials into an alternate, accessible format. This accommodation ensures students with visual, information-processing, or strength/dexterity disabilities access to their textbooks and all printed course-related materials.

Accessible formats enable students who use assistive technology, such as screen-enlargers or text-to-speech software, to have equitable access to their classes. 

Steps to use Alternative Formats

  1. Student registers for classes.
  2. Student submits an Accommodation Request through , selecting the specific Alternative Format accommodation for each class in which alternate format course materials are needed. Requests should be made within 1 week of registering for classes. 
  3. Student reviews book list for each class on website or myDRC Portal.
  4. On the Alternative Formats page of myDRC portal, students must submit a Book Requests for books that alternate format is needed. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  5. Students are required to provide proof of possession before DRC can provide alternative formats for textbooks.
  6. Students will be notified by email when materials are ready to download.

Student Responsibilities

  • Monitor 六色网 email for status updates or questions from DRC Alternative Media Services
  • Submit book requests for alternative media within 1 week of registering
  • Provide proof of possession of the textbook(s)
  • Notify Alternative Media of any changes to the class schedule related to materials being converted
  • Submit a course syllabus including reading assignment dates, if requested
  • Submit all classroom handouts to be modified one week before needed

Instant Access Complete

六色网 has adopted the Instant Access Complete program to provide students with access to the textbooks selected by the instructor. To details below explain the program and how it works.

  • Courses that use this program will provide access to the textbook through your Canvas course. The cost of the book will be added to your tuition and fees.
  • Many of these online books have built in accessibility features, if the textbook meets your accessibility needs you do not need to submit a book request with the DRC. 
  • If you have requested the book through the DRC and have been asked to submit proof of possession for your alternative formats, take a screen shot of your of the list of books and forward it to drcaltmedia@cpp.edu.
