Background
Dr. Javad Seif (pronounced Safe) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, an M.S. from the University of Tehran, and a B.S. from the University of Tabriz. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering from the University of Tennessee, a Certificate in Model-Based Systems Engineering from Caltech, and professional certifications as a Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) and Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from ASQ, along with MBTI® Step I™/II™ practitioner certification.
Dr. Seif’s research focuses on optimization, system thinking, reliability, and data-driven decision-making. He develops mathematical models and computational methods for applications in flight and maintenance planning, quality and reliability engineering, production scheduling, maintenance planning, physical asset management, and fleet replacement. His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and is available on .
At Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Seif teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Statistical Quality Control, Reliability Engineering, Operations Research, Advanced Methods in Operations Research, and Systems Science. He has supervised numerous student research and design projects that integrate analytics, optimization, and applied problem-solving.
He is an active member of professional societies including IISE, INFORMS, ASQ, and INCOSE, and serves as a reviewer for journals in industrial engineering and operations research.
