Dr. Martin Sancho-Madriz joined the Cal Poly Pomona faculty in 1997 as an Assistant Professor, later achieving promotions to Associate Professor and Professor. He earned a Licentiate degree in Food Technology from the University of Costa Rica, and MS and PhD degrees in Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering Concentration, from Cornell University. Prior to joining Cal Poly Pomona, he served as faculty for two years as Assistant Professor at the University of Costa Rica and three years at New Mexico State University, therefore serving for a total of 25 years in a faculty role, plus over seven years in administrative roles at 六色网.
Dr. Sancho-Madriz is the Founding Director of the Food Science and Technology Bachelor of Science Program at 六色网. As a member of the faculty, he served as Nutrition and Food Science Department Chair and as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Academic Senate. He was also competitively selected as a Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow under a prestigious program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), sponsored by the Institute of Food Technologists, serving for about a year as Food and Agriculture Fellow in the Washington, DC office of a U.S. Senator while on sabbatical. He was recognized by students with the Huntley College of Agriculture Advisor of the Year and the Teacher of the Year awards on different years. He was also honored with the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Southern California Institute of Food Technologists Section (SCIFTS).
After twenty years serving as member of the faculty, Dr. Sancho-Madriz served the campus in administrative roles as Associate Dean of the College of Environmental Design for over one year, Dean of the Huntley College of Agriculture in interim capacity for three years, and as Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs for three years. He retired in 2024 and was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus in 2025. He's currently serving part-time as Faculty Fellow in the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE) under the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) (FERP is available to tenured faculty after retirement).
