Good afternoon,

The Academic Senate Elections and Procedures Committee is seeking nominations for a representative from the College of Business Administration to serve on the University Curriculum Committee (UCC)  starting in fall 2025 and ending in spring 2028.

AS-1107-990/AA, University Curriculum Committee, outlines the duties of the Committee:

  1. The membership of the University Curriculum Committee contains elected representatives of the Colleges, Schools, and Related Areas.  The Chair of the Academic Programs Committee serves as an ex-officio member. Per AS-1107-990/AA, members of UCC shall be full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty.
  1. The University Curriculum Committee forwards recommendations and reviews to the Academic Senate for forwarding to the appropriate standing committee. 
  1. The University Curriculum Committee will review all undergraduate and graduate new course proposals, identify potential overlap and/or duplication of existing courses, and make recommendations. The new course proposals so identified, and the University Curriculum Committee’s recommendations shall be forwarded to the Academic Programs Committee.  The Academic Programs Committee shall then make recommendations for resolution and forward its recommendations to the Senate. 
  1. The Associate Vice President for Academic Programs shall establish a website where new course proposals will be posted for review by campus constituencies.  Comments will be solicited and forwarded to the University Curriculum Committee, and the College/School Curriculum Committee, and the Department Curriculum Committee(s) where the new course proposal originated.

The Academic Senate is recruiting for five (5) faculty represenatives from the following colleges for the University Writing Committee (UWC):

  • Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture (1 Vacancy)
  • College of Business Administration (1 Vacancy)
  • College of Environmental Design (1 Vacancy)
  • Collins College of Hospitality Management (1 Vacancy)
  • College of Education and Integrative Studies (1 Vacancy)

 

The UWC has been formed to address EO 665, GWAR Policy Update.  has been updated accordingly and per the policy the UWC shall consist of a Faculty Director or Coordinator with expertise in “Writing in the Disciplines” pedagogy who will serve as committee chair, the Composition Coordinator, one representative from each college, the University Library, a representative from the Office of Academic Programs, and a representative from the Office of Assessment and Program Review. It is recommended the University Writing Center Coordinator be included as well.

 

According to the Academic Senate Constitution, Article II, Section 3 (E), unit 3 representation on University Committees should only be assigned by the Senate. 

 

Eligible unit 3 members are probationary and tenured faculty, temporary faculty (full-time lecturers), librarians, counselor faculty, and coaches, and FERP faculty with a 0.5 base for two semesters. 

 

Interested individuals should submit their name and a brief statement (minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 500 words) detailing: 

1) Your interest in serving on this committee

2) Your qualifications and experiences that can best serve the work of the committee

This memo provides background information regarding Cal Poly Pomona’s Honorary Doctorate
Nominations Committee and invites the Academic Senate to appoint three faculty
representatives to the committee by Friday, October 24, 2025.
Background:
The CSU will soon be accepting Honorary Doctorate nominations for the upcoming spring
commencement ceremonies. Honorary Doctorates represent the highest honor that the Cal
State University System and Cal Poly Pomona can bestow upon an individual. These
prestigious awards recognize outstanding contributions to society, significant achievements in a
professional field, and exceptional service to the community. By awarding Honorary Doctorates,
the CSU celebrates and acknowledges the remarkable accomplishments of distinguished
individuals who serve as role models and inspire our students, faculty, and staff. Cal Poly
Pomona has the opportunity to nominate two individuals to receive this honor.
Committee Charge & Expectations:
University Advancement requests your support to appoint three faculty members who can serve
on Cal Poly Pomona’s Honorary Doctorate Nominations Committee this year. Having faculty
representatives on this committee is crucial as they bring valuable perspectives and insights
that ensure the selection process is thorough and representative of our academic community.
The nominations will be provided to the committee for review in early November. The
committee will meet once on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. to review,
discuss, and confirm the two nominees who will be presented to Interim President Levine for
final consideration.
The finalist(s) approved by the President will be sent to the Chancellor’s Office in early
December, and we expect to receive an update regarding the status of the campus’
nominations in late January. To enable the committee to begin its work, please provide the
names of three faculty members the Academic Senate is appointing to serve on this committee
by Friday, October 24, 2025.

The Academic Senate is recruiting three (3) faculty members for the Search Committee for the Associate Dean for Personnel and Academic Resources (ADPAR) in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.  

 

Below is a summary of the job description for the Associate Dean for Personnel and Academic Resources (ADPAR):

 

The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) is dynamic, collaborative, and innovative. Comprised of twelve academic departments, it offers bachelor's degrees in the performing arts, humanities, and social sciences, and master's degrees in economics, English, history, psychology, and public administration. Single subject credentials are offered in English, history/social sciences, music, and Spanish. The Dean’s Office provides leadership and oversight for over approximately 350 faculty and staff in the College in 10 different buildings, and multiple revenue streams. The Dean’s Office leads implementation of the CLASS 2025-2030 Strategic Plan: Connect, Elevate, Educate.  The Associate Dean for Personnel and Academic Resources (ADPAR) is a key member of the CLASS Leadership team, working collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Success, budget analysts, contracts analysts and department chairs to develop and implement strategies that support faculty, staff, and student success.

 

The ADPAR ensures positive, efficient, and effective operations in the College. The ADPAR provides leadership and oversight for all college personnel and resources. The ADPAR provides oversight in department and College evaluation of temporary faculty, including academic personnel issues, and supports the Dean in permanent faculty hiring, retention and evaluation. The ADPAR provides oversight of college finances, including ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. 

 

The position also works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Success to manage enrollment, budget, and faculty workload. The ADPAR supports department chairs through mentorship and training on personnel policies and guidelines, budget management, and strategic initiatives.

 

The position supervises the operations team within the Dean's Office staff and serves as HEERA manager for the department staff in the college. This position is responsible for annual performance evaluations of permanent staff as well as more frequent evaluations of probationary staff.

 

Additionally, the position supports and implements the College’s directives and initiatives and supports and advises the Dean and supervises the day-to-day work, activities, and personnel of the Dean's Office. The position regularly interfaces with faculty and staff from divisions across the University and may represent the Dean’s Office internally and externally.

 

Per Policy 1310, all faculty members shall be full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty.  Faculty participants in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) shall not be eligible for service.

The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate is recruiting members for the 2025-2026 Academic Senate standing committees.  The Bylaws of the Academic Senate(PDF) provide information on the standing committees. Standing Committees meet Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. except for Wednesday when Academic Senate meetings are scheduled. The members of the standing committees shall be appointed by the Executive Committee and serve a one-year term.   The exception is the Budget Committee where appointed faculty members serve three (3) year staggered terms (unless otherwise stated). 

The following are vacancies per constituency:


  • Academic Affairs Committee - Two (2) vacancies for CBA and CLASS
  • Academic Programs Committee - One (1) vacancy for COL
  • Elections and Procedures Committee - Two (2) vacancies for CBA and SCI
  • Budget Committee - One (1) vacancy for ENV

According to the Academic Senate Constitution, Article II, Section 3 (G), unit 3 representation on University Committees should only be assigned by the Senate. The Academic Senate is recruiting for a College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences representative to serve on the Program Review Committee (PRC) beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year and ending in 2027.

The PRC provides faculty support for and oversight of Cal Poly Pomona’s academic program review process. It is an advisory body to the Academic Senate and the Office of Assessment and Program Review. Members provide feedback to assigned academic programs on matters related to the substantive elements of 六色网’s program review with emphasis on institutional-specific issues not addressed by external reviewers or accreditation agencies. Based on this committee work, the PRC also provides feedback and suggests improvements to the program review process, strengthening the integrity, significance, and relevance of timely program review.

Criteria:

  • Full-time tenured faculty, tenure track faculty
  • Experience with program review, accreditation, and/or assessment

Faculty will receive stipends based on the type of program review and role performed.

The Academic Senate Elections and Procedures Committee is requesting nominations for one (1) College of Environmental Design Academic Senator whose term ends in May 2027. All departments are eligible to serve. 
 
Enfranchised faculty (tenure-track faculty (tenured and probationary appointed on an annual basis--two academic semesters) and full-time lecturers (appointed on an annual basis) are eligible to serve.  The new senator will be seated at the September 24th or October 15th Academic Senate Meeting.   
 
Senators are required to attend meetings every Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. so please ensure your schedule accommodates this commitment.

The First Year Experience (FYE) program at Cal Poly Pomona is a student success program for first-year students, Freshmen and Transfer. Our program helps students adapt to college by offering programs such as Bronco Scholars, PolyTransfer, 六色网 Campus Common Read, PolyX, College-Based First Year Experience Courses, and other developmental programs throughout the first years of college to foster student success. The committee typically meets biweekly for one hour.

The Academic Senate is currently seeking nominations for faculty representatives from the following constituencies for the Council for Graduate and Faculty Scholarship (CGFS) for terms ending in 2026 or 2027:

  • College of Business Administration (term ends 2027)
  • College of Education and Integrative Studies (term ends 2027)
  • College of Engineering (term ends 2027)
  • University Library (term ends 2026)

Tenured and tenure-track faculty are eligible to serve.  Self-nomination is permitted.   

CGFS Responsibilities ()

  • To implement the campus plan for the Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Program, including inviting and reviewing faculty proposals for grants, recommending awards, and coordinating an evaluation of the effectiveness of the program
  • To award seed grants to support preliminary activities, funded through the Research Office, for the purpose of increasing the recipients' ability to compete successfully for extramural funding. 
  • To liaise with the proposed Undergraduate Research Faculty Advisory Council 
  • To promote the development of research, scholarship, and creative activities in the members' constituencies, by having the individual Council members act as liaison with other faculty members in their constituencies. 
  • To ensure co-ordination between the Council and URFAC, the Council should contain at least one member from URFAC in an ex-officio capacity.   The Council should be represented in the same way on URFAC. 
  • The Council will select one of its regularly elected members to represent them on URFAC.
