Strategic Plan and Principles of Community

2025-2027 Transition Extension Plan

As we navigate this period of presidential transition at Cal Poly Pomona, launching a brand-new strategic planning process is not the right step for this moment. Instead, we have developed a transitional extension of our 2017–2025 Strategic Plan. This extension bridges the conclusion of the current plan while laying the foundation for the university’s next long-term strategic direction. It emphasizes our most immediate priorities, while also ensuring continuity and momentum through this period of change.

The framework of the five original strategic initiatives remains in place, but this extension introduces new goals, objectives and success metrics that will help us better track our progress. The updated plan:

  • Reflects the lessons we have learned over the past eight years, including what we discovered through the pandemic and during leadership transitions;
  • Aligns with CSU systemwide strategic priorities to strengthen coherence and foster a shared sense of direction;
  • Accounts for today’s fiscal and political realities, while responding to emerging trends in higher education; and
  • Uses data-driven insights to guide our decision-making and inform the next comprehensive strategic plan.

This is a bridge plan that honors the progress of the past, addresses the needs of today, and positions Cal Poly Pomona for the future.
