Joseph Shin

Hello my name is Joe and I am the Student Security Operation Center(SOC) Lead. My main goal is to drive the vision and planning of the SOC. I also manage a team of students that operate the various SIEM systems within the SOC. My experience at the SOC has helped me gain valuable skills in cybersecurity, infrastructure and SIEMs as I prepare for my career in cybersecurity.

Drake Huffman

My time working for the Student Security Operations Center's managing team has been incredibly fulfilling. I've had the opportunity to help mentor and guide our volunteers through their Cyber career journey. Our work has resulted in our volunteers and alumni securing internships and job offers from top tech companies. Contributing to the success of others has been an extremely rewarding experience.

Kenneth Cher

Hi everyone, my name is Kenneth and I am one of the Security Operation Center student employees. I have been in a SOC environment using SIEMs before, and want to help students gain SOC skills too!. I have experience from multiple internships in cybersecurity and Cal Poly Pomona's Student SOC has helped me improve my skills and achieving my goal of becoming a cybersecurity engineer.

Eric Heng

My degree is Computer Information Systems. Before one of my friends introduced me to the SOC, everything I learned about Information Assurance was nebulous and theoretical. But being at the SOC allowed me to interact with the systems and processes I've learned about, as well as explore greater depth and breadth in an interesting, welcoming, and collaborative environment. The SOC and the people there have been so supportive, I wish more people would come to check us out and grow with us!

Thomas Phao

Hello my name is Thomas and I am a third year Computer Information System's sutdent with a focus on Information Security. I have been gratiously gifted an opportunity to volunteer and work alongside student employees who run and operate the Student Security Operations Center. It has been an amazing time learning real world tools in the environment fostered by the Center for Cyber Risk. The community here has been very helpful and they foster a great innovation between students and professionals within the industry.
