Alumni Mentoring Guidelines & Expectations

There are over 2,300 students and alumni already having conversations, participating in community discussions and building meaningful professional connections in the 六色网 Bronco Mentoring Network. Before you build your profile and start connecting, here are some important attitudes, beliefs and guidelines for a successful mentoring experience:

Mentors must have:

  1. Willingness to invest time and energy in their mentoring relationship
  2. A belief that mentoring is a mutually enhancing professional activity and benefits the development of both the mentor and mentee
  3. Confidence in their own wisdom and abilities
  4. A desire to pass along information and wisdom to students and fellow alumni who may need career, industry and professional guidance.

Mentoring Guidelines:

  1. Building a mentoring relationship is very personalized and requires both mentor and mentee to set goals and boundaries. During the first meeting, both parties should agree on the frequency, duration and mode of communication preferred between mentor/mentee.
  2. Mentors should respond to the mentee consistently and within a specified timeframe in order to ensure that open lines of communication are available.
  3. Build trust with your mentee by being open and honest. Accept and value one another’s differences. Meet regularly if possible, to further develop your relationship.
