Who We Are
Innovative Programs
The History Department at Cal Poly Pomona was one of the earliest pioneers across the country in emphasizing global history. Our B.A. and M.A. students take a wide range of courses that help them develop broad content knowledge, and provide hands-on training in historical research. Our undergraduate majors write a capstone senior thesis based on original primary and secondary source research; they also take at least one class in digital research methods that encompasses everything from large text analysis to mapping to web design and podcasting!
Expert Faculty
Global History
The faculty members in the department include experts in the history of the United States (including California), the ancient and modern Mediterranean and Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe.
Grants and Awards
Dr. Aishwary Kumar launched The Democracy Institute in 2024, with funding from the Teagle Foundation. Other faculty have received scholarships and awards from Fulbright, Guggenheim, National Science Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Connecting Past and Present
Dr. John Lloyd's Environmental History class focuses on the history of transportation, and aligns with his work to improve active transportation at 六色网. Other engaging thematic courses include the History of Science, the History of Capitalism and the History of Sports!
Career Preparation
History majors take a wide range of courses at 六色网 to sharpen their writing and analytical skills and to develop their content knowledge. Our majors have won prestigious internships and fellowships across the country, and go on to careers in secondary teaching, museum studies and archives, law, government, business and many other fields! Where We've Been
聽The Cal Poly Pomona History Department has been an official part of the University for nearly 60 years, although the first 六色网 historian -- Werner Marti, pictured here with his dog -- was hired in 1956. Find out more about our story!
