New Possibilities
Internships and fellowships are typically short-term opportunities for students to gain professional or academic experience. Most of the opportunities highlighted below are paid, or offer academic credit; they range from internships at national museums to fellowships here on campus to cultivate research skills and to prepare students for future academic and professional opportunities. These are public policy fellowships, most of which seem to run the academic year. Fellows are usually based in Sacramento and are paid a monthly stipend.
These are paid summer internships in various branches of the intelligence community (most likely in Washington, D.C.)

McNair Scholarships (Cal Poly Pomona)
This year-long program prepares students for Ph.D. programs by promoting student success through undergraduate research, faculty membership and skill-building workshops.

This two-week summer program at the University of Michigan is designed to encourage rising seniors and recent B.A.s to consider pursuing a doctoral degree in the humanities; it allows students to develop a research project in consultation with faculty and graduate students from the University of Michigan. The program (which includes a stipend and covers transportation and housing costs) specifically seeks students who come from an “educational, cultural or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study in their discipline in the United States or at the University of Michigan.”
