The Music Department offers several scholarships to support your academic and musical endeavors.

These scholarships are awarded on various criteria, including academic achievement, musical talent, and financial need.

Here are some of the scholarships available to you:

• Music Talent Scholarships
  • Awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional musical ability through auditions and academic performance.
• Performance Scholarships
  • Specific scholarships for students involved in university ensembles such as the University Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Mariachi ensemble.
• Composition Scholarships
  • Available for students who show outstanding potential in music composition. Applicants must submit a portfolio of their original works.
• Music Industry Studies Scholarships
  • For students pursuing a degree in Music Industry Studies these scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and involvement in industry-related activities.

Cal Poly Pomona offers a comprehensive financial aid program to help you manage the cost of your education.

Financial aid packages may include grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities.

Here are the primary types of financial aid available:

• Grants
  • Need-based financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Examples include the Federal Pell Grant and the Cal Grant.
• Loans
  • Low-interest loans that must be repaid after graduation. Options include Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans.
• Work-Study
  • Provides part-time employment opportunities for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for educational expenses.

1. Complete the FAFSA
   • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for federal and state financial aid.
2. Submit Required Documents
   • Ensure you provide any additional documentation requested by the Financial Aid Office to complete your application.
3. Review Your Award Letter
   • After your application is processed, you will receive an award letter detailing the types and amounts of aid you qualify for.
4. Apply for Scholarships
   • Explore and apply for scholarships through the Music Department, other university sources, and external databases.

There are many additional resources that offer access to scholarship information. Scholarship search engines are an effective way to gain access to many scholarships.

Outside scholarships are scholarships administered by organizations not affiliated with Cal Poly Pomona. This includes community organizations, private companies, religious affiliations, etc.

These scholarships must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships so that they can make sure it shows as anticipated aid on your account and fits into the rest of your financial aid.

There are many ways for students to find outside scholarships. All it takes is time to search, and to apply, for scholarships. Each scholarship has varying requirements and deadlines, so make sure to review their application information carefully.

Remember, the more applications you submit the better your chances are that you will receive a scholarship.

Be Aware of Scholarship Scams: Beware of companies that guarantee or promise scholarships. Do not send money to companies that make generous promises, charge a fee for you to receive aid, request money by claiming you are a finalist or request your credit card or bank account number.
